The nominations are out for this year’s Society Of Editors Press Awards, and after a tricky year for News International, at least they can smile at the fact their broadsheet title, The Times, is up for 18 awards in total. That noms tally is only equalled by the Daily Mail, assuming you let the Associated-owned paper claim the nomination for Mail Online (which Media Guardian didn’t in its report, because the Mail website is shared with the Mail On Sunday).
After a difficult year for all of Fleet Street in the fallout of the News Of The World’s phone hacking scandal, presumably proprietors and editors alike will be hoping a focus on some of the industry’s best might counter some of the criticism newspapers have received in the last six months via the Leveson Inquiry and elseswhere. The Press Awards take place on 20 Mar in London.
